Once again, Tom Biscardi’s Searching for Bigfoot team is on the road. JavaBob?Create, Tommy Biscardi Jr., and Lee Hickman got together to investigate some sightings in Northern Oregon. The crew began by stopping in Northern California near Happy Camp. We had heard of several recent sightings in an area very close to where the original Roger Patterson film was taken. The specific area was off of U.S. Forest Service Road 15. The locals refer to this as GO road because it connects the Gasquet, Oregon Forest Service Office jurisdiction with the Orleans, California Forest Service Office jurisdiction. We followed the GO road up until we came across some large trees lying across it, and set up camp. It is a very beautiful and remote area were an animal as large and wily as our subject could live with a minimum of interruption.

The area was very mountainous with cold clear streams running throughout it. There is lots of cover from the large stands of timber and rock formations everywhere. We could find lots of food items such as berries, nuts, grasses, and small game. There were signs of bear, large cats, deer, elk, and many smaller animals everywhere. It is a large and healthy ecosystem able to support a diverse variety of life. It was about 64 degrees when we first arrived to set up camp at about 5pm. It was a clear and crisp evening with a slight breeze. However, before long it had dropped to the low 30’s and frost was settling on everything. Even the sleeping bags had a thick coating of frost on them which cracked as we moved inside them.

We endured the cold and set about doing our job. Tommy Jr. and Lee went out to set up trip cameras. We set up on high ground and took advantage of our location to monitor the area with our heat sensitive and night vision equipment. We checked with both heat sensitive monitors and thermo-imaging equipment and inferred night vision monoculars and cameras. We listened with bionic listening equipment and tried several types of calling methods, including “tree knocking”, “call blasting” (with previously recorded calls), and distress calls. All this was done, but with no positive results. The following morning, we checked our cameras and found nothing unusual, some small bears and a few deer, but no signs of our elusive friend. We decided to pack up and head farther north to investigate the reports coming to us from Oregon.
By three thirty in the afternoon on the 19th of October, we were in Sheridan, Oregon. There we called Charlene Henry and her sister Terry Paolo. Charlene and Terry agreed to meet with us at a local restaurant called Coyote Joes in Williamina. Charlene had called Tom Biscardi Sr. to share a story about a “Bigfoot” encounter her friend experienced just few weeks prior to our arrival. It seems that her friend was out elk hunting with his bow. He was trying to call in an elk, but was shocked when an animal he had never seen before came into view. He called his friends Charlene and Terry and took them to the spot he had his encounter. While there, Charlene and Terry both saw unusual and very large foot prints, broken tree branches and tree limbs stripped of fruit. They tried to get the friend who called in the creature to share his experience with us, but he was hesitant because he though people wouldn’t believe him. He was afraid people might even laugh at him if he shared his experience with them. I was able to get his phone number and gave him a call. At first he didn’t want to talk to me at all, but after he realized that I was very serious about this subject and that I actually wanted to listen to him seriously, he was willing to consider meeting with me. I gave him our website information and told him to check us out and that I would call him again the next day after he got a chance to see who we were. In the mean time, the team and I decided to go out to the general area and check it out ourselves. What we found was an area of extreme beauty and a perfect habitat for our subject to thieve.

The ladies could remember the general area where their friend had taken them to see where he had his encounter, but they could not remember the exact spot.
Here we got to a three way split in the road. The ladies did not remember which road to take so we got out and walked the general area.

As you can see by the pictures above, the area was rich and diverse. From clear burbling brooks to thick moss covered forest. A dense and rich temperate rain forest with all of the bio diversity that comes with it!
We could not find the exact area where the sighting took place, but we spent the night anyway. We did our normal routine of physical inspections, calling, setting up trip cameras, and auditing the area with our nocturnal equipment. Once again we saw signs of bear, cat, deer, etc… but no “Bigfoot”. Disappointed, we headed back to town where we could get cell phone coverage. We tried calling Charlene’s friend again, but still no answer. It seemed that he was still nervous about talking to us. Without his input, we might spend weeks in these woods and never find the spot where he had his encounter. Saddened by our missed opportunity, we made a decision to head back south towards Salem, Oregon where we had heard about another Oregonian who had had recent encounters. We reluctantly packed up our gear, said our good bys and headed south.
We drove a couple of hours south, to a town called Springfield. There we met with Greg Helton. Greg is an interesting and animated man. He has been following the “exploits” of “Bigfoot” all over the state of Oregon. He claims to have had several “near” encounters of the creature. Encounters where he thinks he may have seen a glimpse of the creature, but cannot substantiate it, or encounters where he was close enough to hear or smell the creature, but again cannot substantiate those encounters. He told us about encounters where he was with other people, including his own children, who say they saw the creature, but he did not. We were fascinated with the stories that Greg had gathered over the last few years and listened to him with great interest. Greg even shared maps with us that he had marked with sightings all over the state. He categorized those encounters by color denoting what type of encounter it was, sighting or hearing etc…

We stayed and talked with Greg for a couple of hours before heading back towards California. We were headed towards an area between Sacramento and Reno. We had heard about a sighting there last year, but is happened about the same time of the year as now and we know that these are migrational animals. If our theory is correct, there should be a good chance that we will see the creature again this year in the same area... We drove south until we were about 30 miles from the Oregon / California boarder, when the phone rang. It was Bobby O’Keefe. Bobby O’Keefe is the friend of Charlene and Terry’s, who had the encounter near Sheridan Oregon! Bobby told me that he had checked us out and found out that we were “the real thing” and that he would like to share his experience with us! We made a few quick phone calls, including a call to the boss… Tom Biscardi. Tom gave us the green light to turn around and head straight back to Sheridan, Oregon. Without any hesitation, we turned around and headed back north. We got back to Sheridan about 10:30 that same evening. We made the decision to get a motel room and contact Bobby first thing the following morning. As it turned out, we could only find one motel in Sheridan, but it was a great one. We spent the night at the Sheridan Country Inn. Here we were treated more like family than customers and the rooms were clean and comfortable.
This was one of nicest motel we found on this trip. The owner went out of her way to make us feel at home!
After a really good nights rest, we packed up and headed back to Coyote Joes to meet Bobby O’Keefe. Bobby was there with Charlene and Terry. We sat down to a nice meal and some easy conversation, while we got to know each other a little better. After a short while, Bobby began relaying his story to us. He told us he had had an encounter with a large unknown creature while out bow hunting for elk. He had been trying to call in an elk when, to his surprise, he ended up calling in a creature instead! He was totally shocked by what he saw that day. He even went back a couple of days later and repeated his calls. To his surprise, the creature came back again! We recorded all of the details of Bobby’s encounters and convinced him to take us to the spot where he first had his encounter and attempt to call the creature back one more time. Bobby was relieved to see that we took his story very seriously and it was not a joke to us. He could see that even though we asked pointed questions and it was obvious that we “tested” some of the things he talked about, we were seriously interested in what he had to say. After our meal, we all packed up together and headed out into the woods to inspect the area of Bobby’s encounter. It was close to where Charlene and Terry had taken us a couple of days earlier. The actual spot of the encounter was about a mile away from where we had camped two days earlier.

Once in the correct area, we set up a base camp and set about documenting Bobby’s story. We recorded his statement and set up a plan to attempt to call the creature in one more time. We wanted to match the conditions and time as closely as possible to Bobby’s previous encounter. I made the decision to go ahead and do our normal checks and investigations for the rest of that afternoon and attempt the call the following morning so we could match the same time of day. We began with an inspection of the area of the encounter. Tommy Jr. and Lee Hickman checked the area for tracks and other physical signs of the creature. I took photos and had Bobby retell his story while I recorded it to share, in detail, with Tom Biscardi when we got back to the office.

Bobby was dressed in full camouflage while he sat at the base of the tree in the center of this picture. He is a long time bow hunter and very skilled in the art of stealth hunting.
Even after all of our attempts to call in the creature, find tracks of the creature, or any other signs of the creature had failed, we were still left with Bobby’s story. Bobby seemed very credible to us and gave us a lot of detailed information. Sadly, on this trip we were not able to verify the information Bobby shared with us. We do take him at his word and convinced him to carry a camera with him at all times. We know that this is prime habitat for our friend and we are convinced that Bobby did see something very unusual. With his help, we will continue to monitor this area and we will make plans to come back to do more detailed investigations.
Disappointed, we packed up our gear and headed off to meet with a couple who had heard about us at a Super Market in Sheridan. It seems that they had an encounter several years earlier that changed their lives forever. We were very interested in hearing what they had to say, so we headed out to their home just outside of town. Once there, we found Robyn Waddell and her fiancé Shelby McMullen?Create. Robyn is a clerk at a nearby market who got my business card from a friend at work. She had Shelby call me while we were in town. Shelby asked me if I would be interested in hearing about a two day encounter he and Robyn had several years earlier in the coastal mountains of Central Oregon. He went on to say that it was significant enough to make Robyn leave her Church because that particular belief system would not allow her to accept that “Bigfoot” could exist! Needless to say, they had my attention! Once we arrived, we found a very large and muscular man waiting in front of their modest home. He greeted us with an enthusiastic wave to come on in. He had setup a few chairs around a fire pit in his yard and welcomed us to sit and make ourselves comfortable. Robyn came out to meet us and offered us some snacks and some soft drinks. We could see right away that these were open and friendly people who seemed very excited to have someone to share their story with. Someone who was not going to ridicule them or question their sanity! I began by explaining to them that we took this subject very seriously and we needed to hear the whole story. Shelby was very animated and seemed truly pleased to finally be able to get this off his chest without the fear of ridicule. I then, had both of them sign the proper release forms to allow us to video tape their story for Searching for Bigfoot to use later. Once that was all settled, Shelby jumped right into his story. When I say jumped, I mean that literally! Shelby was so animated in his descriptions that at times he actually jumped up on a table to illustrate his actions during the encounter! The story that followed was truly spectacular.

Shelby did most of the telling, but Robyn was not shy either. I have their story on a video file that you can see and hear. Be advised that the language used is explicit and colorful. Some of the subject matter is also a bit “off color”. I have tried to edit out the worst of it, but most of it is as it was told. If you do not want to hear foul language, do not play the video.

For those of you who would like to skip the video, the story unfolded as follows; Robyn and Shelby went camping in a remote campground in the Oregon Coastal Mountains. Their trip began by them sighting what they thought was an “orangutan” like animal hanging in a tree. They thought it was simply the way the moss was hanging, but after that evening, they think it must have actually been an animal. They set about setting up camp and began to hear strange grunts and howls. They found large foot prints in the area and felt certain that they were being watched. In the evening, they were in their tent and heard rocks being thrown into the nearby river and again felt as though something was watching the silhouette of their activities inside the tent. Shelby attempted to make enough noises to chase what ever it was away, but it came back with whoops and growls that, in his words “…let me know where my place on the food chain is…” After which they made the decision to pack up and leave the area!
We decided to go and check out the area for ourselves. It was in fact near a fish hatchery and very remote. We spent the night there investigating the area for any signs. We did calls and “tree knocking” along with baiting the area and setting out trip cameras. We were the only people in this particular campground and it was very quite and remote. We checked the area thoroughly at night with thermal imaging equipment and IR night vision equipment. We knew it was a few years earlier that Shelby and Robyn had their encounter, but we still thought it might be advantageous to check the area. Unfortunately, we found no signs of our elusive friend this night, be we are not discouraged and pledge to keep Searching for Bigfoot until we can find undisputable proof of his existance!
