On October 2, 2004, Amazon.com released a new reporting format for the associates. Of course the cry goes up immediately from the four and twenty associates who actively complain on the discussion forum, [lamenting the loss of the old reports]. Someone pointed out that perhaps the new reports are a manifestation of necessary maintenance to support the reality of the new compensation structure, or perhaps just simple maintenance, which of course was ridiculed by someone, saying:
Of course I had to respond as follows:
The leasing company has called the lease on the old website. Long live the '05 model year..... Maybe you can find the old website on some backlot somewhere, with a price tag in the window and an "As Is / No Warranty" disclaimer in the side window...

P.S. For those who want the old website: How about programmer subsidies from the government to pay them to sit around breaking old websites and creating new websites, kind of like the farm subsidies that pay farmers to leave their lands fallow? Is Amazon already six years old? Is this year the time for a sabbath year for their programmers? "Lev 25:3 Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; 4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard." Perhaps we should be thankful that Amazon is not forcing us to leave our websites fallow for a year.
P.P.S. With a speck of work, someone could create a portal that mimics the look of the old website, transubstantiating the data from this site into the old format. How much would you pay to support having choice of the old and new reports consubstantiated? Possibly with better features even? I long ago produced such a tool for the old system, but have learned the lesson aeons ago that a message letting people know of this item of interest to associates would be buried in cries of "spam! spam! foul! foul!" from a few crotchety individuals who have endless amounts of time to devote decrying and tearing apart anyone who wants to make a small amount of money from lots of other associates who desire some better mousetrap. So I keep my autogenerated databases, and queries, and spreadsheets, and graphs, for my own quiet amusement in the early hours of the morning.
So in the absense of government subsidies, communist wealth redistribution, or "Acts 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men , as every man had need," I guess the rest of you are just stuck with the new wine of these new reports.
