One author says that it matters not whether a man lives to middle life or to old age, the first twenty years is the greater half of his life on earth. Perhaps if we take into consideration the effects of this young life as projected into the future, this may be true. Old people well know that the memories of these twenty years fastest themselves on the mind more firmly than do the memories of any or all of the future years.
Hitherto the life has been a sucker from the parent growth. The shoot which has been nourished under the shelter of the parent stem, and bent according to its inclination, is now to be transferred to the open world of opportunity, where it must take root and grow into its own strength.
