Sony AR VGN28GP
Just before Christmas I decided I needed a new laptop. I picked up one of the new Sony AR series, with a screen so big you need to use your peripheral vision to see the whole thing. It’s got a 17” 1920 x 1200 display, that is full 1080 hidef capable, along with blue ray capable optical drive.
It also has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, the T7400 2.16ghz. (T7400? Wasn’t that the series of the Arnold Swarzeneger Terminator robot?) It has 200GB of hard drives in a SATA RAID configuration.
It’s designed for AV editing. I only bought it because of the huge screen that drawfs the the typical 1280 x 800 screen on most of the laptops for sale. I’ve just about got the laptop setup with all the software I want to have on it for development work, this extra screen real estate will be nice for development and especially debugging.…..
Oh, the cat here customized the keyboard the very first night. Some cats like to exercise their claws on computer keywords, and laptop keyboards don’t tend to fair well. Unfortunately, not only did she remove about 4 or 5 keycaps, she must have snagged her claw on one of the rubber things underneath ripping it. Now the page down key doesn’t bounce up, and doesn’t work when pressed… Fortunately, FN-Down Arrow works for page down, I’m already used to doing that from my Toshiba Libretto….
