The Skunk Ape is Florida's version of Bigfoot. The name of the Skunk Ape comes from it's horrible smell.
According to Dewey Weaver, a spokesman for the Lake City Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission, "A lot of old timers believe the skunk ape can go in the aquifer underneath the Everglades and travel through it and come out in another place." It is believed this is the cause of it's horrible smell, described as a mixture of moldy cheese, rotten eggs, dung, an old dumpster, and a skunk. It is claimed that they are good at covering up their dead, and this is why theri skeletons and fossils have never been found.
Supposedly Florida lawmakers, too busy to pass a law to protect Terri Shiavo from an adulterous husband/guardian, passed a bill making it illegal to molest a skunk ape. The legislative committee has gone to great efforts to protect the legendary anthropoid.
