One technique for helping FrontPage able to deal with a large websites is to organize it's webpages in folders, (or subdirectories), and then make some of it's folders into subwebs. This will allow the site to be updated into sections.
However, this technique also has some drawbacks:
A site hosted with FrontPage extensions under Linux, or Unix, relies on the WAIS (Wide Area Information Search) features of FrontPage extensions to handle the Search component.
One solution to this problem is possible if the hosting is under Windows 2003. On Windows 2003, the WAIS searching feature of FrontPage extensions is no longer available. Any site attempting to rely on the old WAIS searching features will likely not even display a searching box, but might instead just display the text [FrontPage Search Component]
Under IIS 6.0 with Windows 2003, all searching must be done in conjunction with Index Server. Index Server is not automatically available for each virtual site on a server, but must be configured manually via catalogs, and directories included in each catalog. To enable website search, each virtual site on a server should have it's own Catalog configured. When a catalog is configured to track the main folder of a site, it will automatically index that folder, and all subfolders. Index Server does not care if the folders are FrontPage subwebs.
Another possibility to use for searching your site is the [Google Free Site Search].
