I'm keeping a list of telemarketers like SBC Communications that I've warned about not calling me. Feel free to add more to the list at TelemarketerPhoneNumbers .

SBC Communications - Offering lifeline service for $16.60 if household income is less than $28,000 per year

  • He didn't know their phone number
• Asked for the address
  • "aint no streets where I am at." West Virginia.
• Asked him how he gets to work
  • Says he drives to work, but doesn't know the streets.
  • "It's a little rural?" How do you drive there if there is no street?

He gets me the supervisor.

I am sick in bed, and I get call from them offering me $75 if I will switch my service. I get all choked up on phlegm, and the telemarketer worries that I might expire before giving her the OK to switch my service. But first, they must know who my current carrier is. I decline to tell them, but find out if it is someone like Verizon, they can't sell into Verizon's territory, so they would not be able to give me this offer.

Now I ask to talk to supervisor

Man comes on the phone identifying himself as Alfred Long

Then the line gets disconnected. Call back on the 314-588-5973 number and the system answers with a message "SBC Communications". Someone answers and I ask to speak to Alfred Long. Eventually they transfer me back to Alfred.

I make it real clear to him that I've made several requests to get off their lists.

As a verizon customer I'm not eligible for their offer. "Our dilema is that we have a rotary dialer, and it dials automatically. Verizon customers supposed to be automatically taken off the list."

Ten years? "Not sure how long to be on the list."

Written do not call policy? "Definitely."

Send me a copy: "I can do that? If you give me about a week. I say a week because I have to research it." He takes down my name and address.

"OK Mr. Chaney, I will make sure you get that information. And I will contact marketing to make sure you get taken off the list."
