No software programs exist to allow non-licensed users the ability to break this Microsoft's DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology. Many instructions require you to already have a license to the protected WMA file. Once you have the license file, some tutorials suggest creating an Audio CD, and then using ripping software to create copy-protectionless MP3 files from the audio CD.

Apparently Windows Media Player's burning engine is incompatible with MusicMatch?Create WMA files.
Some speculate that ID3 tags are being used. However renaming to mp3, and using id3kill, did not work to remove the protection.
This is a wma editor that is not real easy to use, and it is a for pay program:

A better solution might be to convert the files to mp3:

Another way to convert files is to use a program like CoolEdit , select 'Stereo Mizer' as recording source, play the the WMA file in Windows Media Player, and then record. This does not involve analog patch cables and should offer good fidelity.
