QuickBooks (Search) - Problems with the Price Levels Function
Subjects > Computers (Search for Computers) > Software (Search) > Accounting Software (Search) > QuickBooks (Search)
Price Levels are a feature that is a selling point for the new QuickBooks (Search for QuickBooks) 2004 and 2005 Premier editions.
However this feature is a real disappointment in that it's
Scenario: A business has created memorized transaction invoices for each of it's customers that lists custom prices on various items commonly ordered by that customer. The business deals in commodities with fluctuating prices, but the customers want to see stability in their prices. So the memorized transaction invoices contain items with prices that sometimes, are actual list prices, sometimes are greater, or sometimes are lower prics, than the current list price for that item. The business sells by the case, and the cases come in various weights, but customers want to know the price per pound. Since quickbooks doesn't know anything about weights per item, each item has two custom fields for items that record a price per pound, and weight per case.
- Lack of calculated fields causes problems.
- Unit Cost, or Price Per Pound, fields look wrong on invoices when price levels are used.
- Scenario: Items sold by the case, with a custom field for price per pound.
- If the items are setup with case prices, and properly calculated price per pound, everything is ok. However if a custom price level is setup, and invoices are printed including the custom field, customers will see a price per pound that doesn't match their case price. This is because the calculated price per pound isn't calculated based on their actual price, it is a set custom value that QuickBooks (Search) doesn't even realize is a number, let alone realize that it should have a calculated value with a relation to other fields.
