Today I read a letter from a marketing expert saying that businesses are concerned about using envelopes because of the war on terror. There are occassional stories of the bomb and biohazard squads being called to deal with envelopes with powder in them, or leaking strange materials.
Postcards have none of these drawbacks. Postcards are also very quick to send, and are less expensive too. Bulk mail rates for postcards are lower than for sending envelopes.
Here are some ways to use postcard marketing for your business:
- Lead Generators:
- Generate leads for your business by offering something for free: information, gift, booklet, sample, consultation, etc.
- Response Mechanism:
- Send your customer a series of postcards describing benefits of your product and services. Use this series of postcards like an Internet auto-responder. You can also describe features of your product or service, but be sure to focus on benefits.
- Consistent Message:
- Mailing postcards on a regular schedule can help prospects to make the decision you want.
- Reduced Price / Free Offer:
- Use the postcard like a coupon: 2 for 1 offers, percent off, or offer something free. These can all be done efficiently with a postcard. Use simple graphics and short sentences for the most impact.
- Up sell:
- Generate additional business from your existing customers. Offer a "thank you for being a preferred customer," or some value for the purchase of your higher margin products and services.
- Introduction:
- Introduce you, your company, your products, and services, to people who are new to the area. This could also be new new businesses, and organizations.
- Reminders to Re-Order:
- You can increase you customer care with postcards. Car, and tire, dealers do this by reminding customers when it is time for oil changes and tire rotations. Is there a periodic aspect to your product or service? Customers like to "be taken care of." Letting customers know its time to re-order something is a great service. "Did you know your are about to run out of (your product here)? It's time to re-order according to our records."
- Invitation to Return:
- Use postcards to try to get your old customers come back and order again. Mention to them, "We haven't seen you in a while." People like to know they are remembered.
- WWW.com:
- Postcards can be used to market your website. Even simple postcards can be effective: "Visit us at www.1-800-inkwell.com". You may choose a postcard that shows the look of the home page of a particular site.
