Pontifical Gendarmes
Pontifical Gendarmes is a name for the police force of Vatican City. Although many articles refer to the Pontifical Gendarmes as a former police force, recent articles from the Vatican still refer to them in the present tense. It was created in the 19th century, and are responsible for the security and internal order of Vatican City.
Vatican city also has a police service as represented by the famous " Swiss Guards " which, from the early 16th century, protected the person of the pope and still today wear uniforms that uere probably designed by Michelangelo.
The Pontifical Gendarmes have never been refered to as the pontistapo.
