Passport Problems At The Malaysian Singapore Border
It would have been two days, except Sarah ran into a problem with her 6 month old passport, it wasn’t new enough. Seems the renewal passport she got this summer doesn’t have a chip in it, and it had a note about her needing to get it replaced when she gets back to Malaysia. At the airport, she asked the immigration officer about it, and he said she wouldn’t have any problems with the passport, no need to worry. Well, the immigration officer at the Singapore border had a different idea. Poor guy, they’ve got the head of immigration in this really crummy looking trailer the size of our living room, with two or three other people desked in the same building. I kept asking “Ok, when do I either play very stupid and try to force him to explain to me in English why he’s holding us up, or do I obviously start waiving fist fulls of one ringitt notes and pocket change at him…..” Finally he gave Sarah permission to go over for one day, but told us she wouldn’t get permission for the next day…
