PPC-6700 First Test of EVDO Wireless Sprintpcs Internet Connectivity

Testing a new SprintPCS PPC-6700, with EVDO. It really does work a lot faster than the old system.

Typical Data Usage of a wireless internet session

The salesman warned me I wouldn't be able to use this phone as a laptop modem without paying extra for the privilege. It seems it works just fine.

Sprint's usual 40MB service for $25 a month would probably allow someone to browse about 250-400 web pages a month.... But I am using this phone with wmodem, without paying for the data service. According to the salesman, Sprint has the ability with the EVDO network to montiro how the phone is being use, and somehow limit the internet access of the phone to only when the phone using the internet, and block a laptop from using the connection. But I've been browsing the net, running speed tests, and running Remote Desktop, without any problems at all.

EVDO data this session: 395,621 sent, 5,259,438 received. Saving this article changed it to: 422378 sent, and 5,353,483...

Browsing a couple more pages, pulling this one up for further edits, etc., now I'm up to 461,217 sent, and 5,481,178 recieved....

I'm going to do a Copernic search for "[internet speed tests]?Create" just to see what happens to bandwidth... That put me up to 502,107 sent, 6,561,040 received...

EVDO Internet connection speed tests

The pages feel a lot more snappy. Using the internet explorer on the phone doesn't feel hopelessly slow like on the old PPC-6600.
Tried several speed tests. The www.dslreports.com mobile speed test seemed broke, it displayed some random garbage at the end of it's test.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp this one work. Reported speeds of 618kbps and 300kbps. Those numbers jive with the apparent feel of the line.
Remote desktop feels good. A DIR in a dos prompt responded very quickly over this EVDO wireless internet connection.
