Outsource The Drudgery Associated With Your HobbiesI’ve gotten bored with the doom and gloom books about the clash of civilizations with Islam that the Muslims are pursuing…. I just bought a giant 60 page per minute document scanner, and I’m back to ripping up and digitizing my book collection.
When I’m not doing that, I’m reading “The World Is Flat”, all about the amazing changes in the last ten years that are flattening the world, and enabling outsourcing, insourcing, and all kinds of other transformational things. He relates the incredible number of things that are being outsourced: Preparation of tax returns, tutoring of children, call centers taking drive through orders.
It has me thinking about how I can individually benefit from the availability of $400/mo. Indian workers, or maybe why I should go to Bulgaria again and hunt for workers there. Could make me the subject of an interesting article someday, “How this man accomplishes more in his free time than the rest of us do in a work week, by outsourcing his hobbies to the developing world….” Imagine the decadence of having a stamp collection that is located in India, being maintained by someone there. “I have fun buying the stamps, but I send them to my staff person in India to mount, he sends me hi-res pictures of the finished album pages. It was very cheap to build an extremely safe vault and building there.. I do the same with old family photos. I’m thinking of getting into baseball cards….” Or being like Jay Leno with a collection of old cars, except you keep most of them in Eastern Europe, where the availability of $10/hr. mechanics lets you spare no expense in making them pristine. “Besides its more fun to go there and drive the cars, it’s easier to just pay off the policeman who catches you speeding, than it is to deal with traffic school and courts in the U.S.”…. Children of rich parents sending obscure books like War and Peace to be read and summarized by their father's offshore personal executive secretary. Oh wait, that's already been done....
Uh, oh, chanelling more great ideas.....
Perhaps there is a niche market for me to advise rich people on things like this, ways to stretch their hobby and nanny dollars…..
