The drug problem could be solved in a single day, by legalizing drugs.
Michael, I don't think so.... Look at the huge expense to society of legalized "drugs" such as alcohol and cigarettes.... And those aren't really that legalized. When was the last time you saw a liquor store sell their own still'd alcohol and home made rolled cigarettes? Despite the legalization, it's controlled and taxed very closely by the government, and woe be to anyone who tries to profit from the legalization without the government tax stamps.
Legalizing the drugs of the drug war would help the pharmaceutical companies make more money as they ration out the drugs to us in nice measured doses. And the trial lawyers could then make money suing when people over dose and otherwise ruin their lives on the drugs.
For another example of the problems of drugs: Read about the downfall of any number of porn stars who get into drugs. Was it the illegalness of the drug that killed that actor, or was it the harmful effects of such substances on their body? Legalizing might lower the price, so that they could reach their toxic dose quicker. And since most such legalized substances are eventually sold by big multinational corporations, some little old ladies would make money into their pension funds. And perhaps it is a good thing to make it easy for such actors to kill themselves off?
However, I give you a lot of credit for proposing a novel way to solve the problems of the Social Security fund. Malaysia had a different way to solve it: One page of their four page form to full out when entering the company was devoted to only these simple words: "Death to drug traffickers"
However there are some problems that could be solved by legalization: For example, legalizing the right of citizens to carry guns could solve a lot of crime problems by giving the criminals more risk of swift justice, rather than endless lawyers appeals against making them pay the price of their crime against society.
