What Is Virtual PC?

Microsoft's Virtual PC makes it possible a Windows PC to simultaneously run it's own operating system, plus a virtual PC in a window that runs just about any other version of Windows, DOS, or Linux. For a more complete description of Virtual PC, please see Microsoft Virtual PC Description .

Notes About Microsoft Virtual PC

• Reduce Virtual PC VHD Disk Size

It is possible to run it on XP Home.

Periodically it will give this error: "There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network."

Prior to running Virtual PC, Sysinfo reports:

• Total Physical Ram: 512MB
• Available Physical Memory: 302.71MB
• Total Virtual Memory: 1.70GB
• Available Virtual Memory: 1.20GB
• Page File Space: 1.21GB

After loading Virtual PC, and a single Virtual PC Guest Computer running Windows 2003 Server:

• Total Physical Ram: 512MB
• Available Physical Ram: 141.03MB
• Total Virtual RAM: 1.70GB
• Available Virtual Memory: 844.69MB
• Page File Space: 1.21GB

After it's been running for a while, and there has been some activity in the window:

• Available Physical Memory: 44.90MB
• Total Virtual Ram: 1.70GB
• Available Virtual Memory: 465.66MB

After saving the Virtual PC, and exiting the Virtual PC program:

• Available Physical Memory: 260.91MB after refresh: 245.96MB
• Available Virtual Memory: 933.70MB after refresh: 912.18MB
