This program is based in Marin County, California. It is under the auspices of the Marin Abused Women's Services. The program was found in 1980, and was one of the first programs of it's type in the nation. The program aims to work with men who were violent to their female partners, and help them end their immediate abuse and engage the men in community advocacy. The program feels it is important to change attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours in men and those around them.

The program was founded in three major principles:

• 1) Men's violence against women is learned behavior which can be unlearned. By doing so, men will be freed of destructive belief systems which have also harmed them;
• 2) Men must be accountable for their violence;
• 3) Community beliefs which support and encourage men's violent behavior must be changed to end abuse and men have a key role to play in changing those beliefs.
