Facts about Malaysian National Service:

• According to Lim Kit Siang, opposition leader, Malaysia has over 4000 National Service dodgers which will clog the country's judicial system if pursued. In December 2004, he told a Sarawak DAP convention in Sibu, "There are more urgent matters to be dealth with, such as serious crimes, drugs, corruption, and others".
• 85,000 youths are targeted to participate in Malaysian National Service in 2004-2005.
• National Service Camps employ two disciplinary officers
• Punishment for first through third class of msiconduct fact penalties of drill exercises for up to half-an-hour twice a day for a maximum of three days.

In December 2004, 28,883 youths are to report to boot camps for Malaysia's National Service. The Malaysia National Service lasts for a period of 82 days.

85,000 total participants are targeted in 2004. However many camps are not yet completed. There are 76 existing camps, with 10 more to completed. Incomplete camps (70% incomplete) are in Perlis, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak and Johor.
