Lars Larsen is on in the evenings starting at 10pm on KNEW AM 910 in the San Francisco area.
It is first ammendment Friday...
San Francisco has decided to authorize gay marriage, eventhough it is illegal in California.
Lars think this is an indication of our lack of respect for marriage. Marriage is part of what holds all of society and the family together. Opponents went to court to stop this act of civil disobedience where San Francisco has issued over 100 marriage licenses. Campaign for California Families has gone to court to prevent this. Because of the Presidential holiday on monday, it is unlikely that anything will get done about this before Tuesday.
Marriage is being borrowed for two purposes, not family or love: They are trying to force the rest of America to acknowledge homoexuality as a legitimate lifestyle choice. When most of America does not approve of homosexuality, how in can the City of San Francisco stand up and issue licenses for something that is not legal. It is to force social acceptance. The institutions of our government normally says we must follow the law, but now they are saying just violate the law to effect social change. And they want cash benefits. This is not about family and love, homosexuals have been getting married in America for years. They can do this in front of a minister. Larsen says that the only need the license to pry loose from the employer health care benefits, cash, and pension benefits. It is strictly a marriage for money.
Lars says that homosexuals are only a 2% - 5% part of the population, which is a very small minority.
First caller doesn't think it is any big deal.
Second caller, Dennis: We're talking about a definition of marriage. Doesn't have a problem with the gay marriage. It's simply about actuarial tables for people who smoke, and people who don't. Caller thinks that HIV is just as big of an issue. Caller says we need four actuarial lifestyles to cover people who live in unhealthy lifestyles. Someone with AIDS uses half a million dollars in resources as they die. Homosexuals are trying to get the rest of us to pay that.
Lars says he pays more health insurance, more life insurance, and more car insurance, because he occassionally smokes a cigar.
Caller: Doesn't think it is big deal what is happening in San Francisco. Lars says civil disobedience is by individuals, but government doing civil disobedience is simply lawlessness. Government represents everyone and the law, and when it disobeys the law, it is doing it on behalf of all of us. Lars asks "Is it ok for government to do anything it wants, whether or not it matches the law?" If the government can violate this law, which laws can't they violate? Why not have the state of California to just go and rob banks of 15 billion dollars to balance the budget. Caller says that is wrong, it's against the law. Lars points out that gay marriage is against the law.
Callers second point is opened ended question "What is the exact harm to come to marriage by allowing homosexuals to wed?"
Lars says that marriage is exclusively for men and women. Two thirds of America doesn't agree with homosexual marriage, according to recent surveys. If gay marriage is allowed, what about those who want to marry 12 year olds, or marry their sibling, or marry their dogs? Lars points out that state license means nothing to institution of marriage. It is the vows to each other, and to God, that matter. So why do gays need marriage license? They want recognition and cash. They are being mercenary. Lars wants to know what you would think of someone who gets married only for cash, most would say that is a mistake.
Lars says this opens up the door to polygamy and everything else.
On the top of the news agenda is the gay marriage, and Massachusets Supreme Court ordering their laws to be rewritten.
Caller thinks that the Lars is right, and the whole thing will snowball. Same arguments that gays make can be made by someone who wants to marry several wives at the same time.
Caller Melissa from Idaho thinks this issue is like the drivers licensing of illegal immigrants, which most people were against. It is the Mayor of San Francisco that is allowing this to happen.
Caller calls about another story: Henderson Nevada - Kid who is age 16 and has twice the legal limit of alcohol of his blood, drives 80 MPH in 25 MPH, hits a wall, and kills three of his 15 year old friends. His mother says dont try him as an adult, let him go after a year in juvenile. The mothers of the victims want him tried as an adult. Caller thinks that the kid should go in jail until he is 21. Punishing him will not give the other kids back to their parents.
Lars says that punishing it tough would send a message that society will take it seriously when someone takes life.
Caller says marriage is a stabilizer. Biggest predictor of a child's future is if his parents are nuturing him or not. There is a saying about letting the Camel getting it's nose under the tent.
Caller from Alaska, Trevor: Calling about gay marriage. Caller disagrees about government being involved in licensing marriage.
Caller claims to know Ryan Anderson, National Guardsman who is being held on suspicion of spying. The caller says that Ryan was very devoted to gun rights, and was interested in starting a gun club. Caller knew Anderson back in 1999. Caller was surprised by Anderson's conversion to Islam. Anderson was very into guns, and new very much about them. Also felt that Ryan knew he'd get in a lot of trouble for what he is reported to have done on the internet to try and contact Al Queda.
