One one of these Jerusalem Crickets had gotten in my apartment, and I saw it scurrying as I moved some papers around the floor. It was colored like a scorpion and the size of a scorpion, so it really frightened me.. I caught it, and put it in the cage of a tarantula that I had at the time. The tarantula saw the food, got ready to pounce.... When it lunged forward to catch the cricket, it's fangs literally clanked against the armor of jerusalem cricket. It couldn't pierce it... The tarantula hovered over the cricket, literally shaking, as if with rage. Then a few seconds later it struck again, with another loud clank.... The cricket walked forward, then kicked with it's back legs. The tarantula didn't like that, and backed away... They lived together for several weeks.
Later they both mysteriously died, I think someone gassed them. I was keeping them at work, and not everyone else was as enamored of these pets as I was. I was working on the Turbo Debugger project at Borland, and I thought it very inspiration to have a creature whose sole purpose in life was to find bugs and get rid of them.
