Islam Hadhari concerns the development of civilization based on Islamic principles. It promotes a better life through acquisition of knowledge (continued education and learning), human development, and physical development.

There are 10 basic principles of Islam Hadhari:

• Piety and faith in Allah
• A just and trustworthy government
• A free and independent people
• The vigorous pursuit and mastery of knowledge
• Balanced and comprehensive economic development
• A good quality of life for the people
• Protection of the rights of minority groups and women
• Cultural and moral integrity
• Safeguarding natural resources and the environment
• Strong defense capabilities.

Malaysia (Search) is using various government agencies to spread awareness of this concept to Malaysians who not generally familiar with this idea.

• Malaysian Islamic Developmet Department (Jakim) has general supervision over this
• Armed Forces Religious Corp (Kagat) will explain this idea to soldiers
• Malaysian Institute of Islamic Understanding (Ikim) will promote this idea to non-Muslims.

"The teaching of Jawi, the reading of the Al-Quran, and the branch of Islamic teaching known as Fardhu 'Ain have already been absorbed into the primary education system", said Datuk Dr. Abdullah Mohamed Zin after a recent conference on Islamic Hadhari at the University Malaysia. This conference focused on the presentation of ten papers concerning everything from the challanges of presentation to implementation. Islamic religious scholars and academicians came from Indonesia and Thailand, as well as all over Malaysia, to attend.
