Changing The Default Folder View In Windows XP

Q. Is there some way to set my computer so that when I am looking through Windows XP the folders would always appear as “List” rather than “Icons?”

A. You just need to setup a folder the view that you want, and then set all the other folders to use that view.

• 1. Click on My Computer
• 2. Navigate to any folder
• 3. Select from menu: View -> List
• 4. Menu: Tools -> Folder Options
• 5. Select View tab on the dialog.
• 6. Change any of the advanced settings.... Some of my favorite changes:
  • - Turn on Display the Full path in the address bar
  • - Turn on Display the full path in the title bar
  • - Turn off Hide extensions for known file type
    • if this is on Mybudget spread sheet will show as Mybudget
    • if this is off Mybudget spreadsheet would show as Mybudget.xls
• 7. When done changing options, click on "Apply To All Folders"

Thanks for reminding me to do this. I like to select the details view for all my folders.
