How foreign governments continue to fail their citizens despite all the aid that we send.
Even in some of the most modern facilities in University settings found in Africa and South America, there are severe shortages in medicines and supplies. The cause of this is multifactorial including the generally “poor” economic conditions, severe governmental underfunding, governmental corruption, etc. The end result is the same: increased mortality and morbidity of the people that become ill, especially affecting the smallest and weakest: children. These conditions have existed for many decades in many of the developing countries despite the fact that there are many charities, support groups, and other foundations. Many of these groups fulfill a particular niche. Like only treating kids with HIV, or helping only children with sickle-cell disease, or only helping amputees.
All of these programs are extremely valuable. They help relieve much suffering and certainly have saved the lives of countless children. The problem lies in that many people believe that the children get to a hospital or clinic (if they are able) receive all the treatment that need. This quite far from the truth. The hospital systems in developing countries are often extremely ill-equipped because of shortages to handle the amount of pediatric patients that care for.
The fact is most of children who are sick and dying in the world suffer from endemic and typical infections like pneumonia , diarrhea , tuberculosis , malaria , dehydration , etc. There are very few charities targeting this general pediatric population. MSCF gives help to to where it is needed most - directly to the pediatric hospitals and clinics. This also allows for the broadest benefit of child health. There are too many children in these hospitals succumbing to the everyday illnesses of dehydration, pneumonia, uncontrolled infections.
