A. PDF (Portable Document format) is a format used by Adobe Acrobat Reader for many documents on the web. Often nicknamed Proprietary Damn Format because it requires an operating system capable of reading PDF files (there are many that can not).

Google has changed all that by not only indexing PDF files, but also by converting them into text files that you may view by clicking on the "view as html" link.
