by Timothy Mulligan (Hardcover - April 1999) ISBN 1557505942 - An accounting of the major players in the German U-boat forces. Good reading; well worth the time.
- [The Odyssey of a U-Boat Commander]?Create: Recollections of Erich Topp
by Erich Topp (Author), Eric C. Rust (Author) (Hardcover) ISBN 0275938980 - Admiral Topp was an ace U-boat commander in WW2, and an advisor to the development of the submarine simulator "Silent Hunter 2".
- [Operation Drumbeat]?Create : Germany's U-Boat Attacks Along the American Coast in World War II ISBN 0060920882 - Talk to someone who lived on the shore of New Jersey during the war and they'll tell you about the ships burning just off the coast. This is THE book to read about the Nazi attacks on America.
- [Run Silent, Run Deep]?Create (Classics of Naval Literature) - ISBN 0870215574 - Fictional account from a real submarine captain; became an award-winning movie starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster.
- [Salt and Steel]?Create: Reflections of a Submariner ISBN 1557500541 - You read the novel; you saw the movie; now read what he really did.
- [Shooting the War]?Create: The Memoir and Photographs of a U-Boat Officer in World War II by Otto Giese, James E., Jr. Wise (Contributor) ISBN 1557503079 - Otto Giese is one of the few who started out as a sailor on a square-rigged sailing ship, served on a German passenger liner, was a U-boat officer, and had a fantastic life of adventure.
- [The Silent War]?Create: The Cold War Battle Beneath the Sea
by John Pina Craven (Hardcover) ISBN 0684872137 - John Craven's view can be a bit one-sided, but his involvement in the US nuclear sub program warrants this book a must-read.

by Anthony Preston, Antony Preston ISBN 1571451722 - From the CSS Hunley's sinking in Charleston during the Civil War to modern nuclear boomers and attack subs, this book gives a good overview in pictures and line drawings.
- [The Terrible Hours]?Create by Peter Maas (Author) (Mass Market Paperback) ISBN 0061014591 - Not all submarine adventures involve warfare. This was the greatest submarine rescue in history.
- [Thunder Below]?Create!: The Uss Barb Revolutionizes Submarine Warfare in World War II ISBN 0252019253 - Submarines didn't always hide beneath the waves. Retired US Admiral Fluckey tells us his story. This should be made into a movie.
- [Torpedo Junction]?Create: U-Boat War Off America's East Coast 1942
by Homer Hickam (Mass Market Paperback) ISBN 0440210275 - Not much has been written about the attacks on American shipping off New Jersey. This is one of the better ones.
- [20,000 Leagues Under the Sea]?Create by Jules Verne (Author), Leo and Diane Dillon (Illustrator) (Hardcover) ISBN 0688105351 - Jules Verne saw it all coming, and wrote this fictional account of what would be. Disney made a movie out of it, and then a ride out of it at Walt Disney World.
- [U-Boat Commander]?Create: A Periscope View of the Battle of the Atlantic by Peter Cremer, Fritz Brustat-Naval (Photographer) (Hardcover - November 1984) ISBN 0870219693 - Only 30% of the men in the German u-boat force survived the war. These are the memoirs of one of the best of the u-boat commanders.
- Cassell Military Classics: [U-Boat Killer]?Create: Fighting The U-Boats in the Battle of the Atlantic by Donald Macintyre, Robert B. Carney ISBN 0304352357 - A view from the stern of a u-boat hunter, for a nice change.

- WAHOO?Create by Richard O'Kane (Author) (Paperback) ISBN 0553281615
- Wahoo?Create : The Patrols of America's Most Famous World War II Submarine by Richard O'Kane (Author) (Paperback) ISBN 0891415726 - Dick O'kane commanded two boats. This tells of one; The other - "Clear The Bridge" - is out of print.
