Fryes Electronics Return Policy - Some Comments

Unfortunately, I bought it from Fry's in Arizona and now must deal with their service department, even though I purchased their "extra warranty". Of course, the person I dealt with (the "expert") had never seen anything like this in his "5" years of great experience in tech support. I have been dealing with lcds for over 25 years and have some patents on them, and have seen a great deal of cracks like this. Of course, what does my PhD?Create stand up to his "5 years of tech support". Not only did he deny my request for a new one, he did not give me a loaner and charged me to send it back to Sony, who he said was going to charge me also.
I had three sony's in for repair when I took this one in, and have had two others in this year. I also have had 3 fujitsus, of which I had to take one back to Best Buy (and they changed it right there on the spot, no questions asked).
I would think the fujitsu is a better product, but I wanted am 802.11g transceiver, which the sony did have.I also wanted blue tooth to sync with my pdas and telephone (which the sony did not have built in) but I never did get the phone to work with the laptop (Sony TR3A). The fujitsu is considerably less expensive. The battery on the Sony only lasts about 3 hours or less fully charged, while I saw some posts regarding the Fujitsu lasting up to 6 hours. I loved the screen (while it worked) I loved the keyboard, even though I have big hands. Some times I would hit the wrong keys, but this is supposed to be a small unit that is portable. The disk was reasonably quick. The touchpad was okay.
Before you buy from Fry's, consider it very carefully. I think their warranties might be on the verge of fradulent, and are certainly misleading from what the sales people verbally tell you. If I were going to buy again, be it a Fujitsu or Sony, I would buy from a Best Buy with their warranty. They don't treat you like an idiot and actually act like they are glad to have you in their store rather than how dare you bring something back that is broken? I would rather buy online or from Best Buy than from Frys. The only reason is to go in and compare and look at the product so you know what you are buying.

I'm adding my comments in addition to the above. Word to the wise....don't purchase anything that promises a rebate. I complied with all the details (held my breath for 30 seconds, stood on one toe, gauged my eyes, hiked 10 miles, etc) and still didn't get what I was promised. I purchased a computer monitor at Frye's Electronics which offered a $30 rebate....didn't get it. I didn't qualify for "inadequate address". WHATEVER!!!! Once I was able to appeal, I got "opps sorry, you're out of time...the window of opportunity has expired." Frye's does not support any of the rebate offers, but they sure take the opportunity to sell the products with a bad program/promise to customers. NOT GOOD. I won't be shopping at Frye's and I won't be buying anything else from Daewoo.
Thanks for your comments. Another way that they scam you is that if you send in the rebate offers, you have to include the UPC from the box. If you cut the UPC off the box, they will not allow you to return the item to the store. That's why the rebates are often for a short time, if you try to claim the rebate, it gets them out of their obligation to accept returns of the product. Of course the manufacturer wont give you a refund either, since they didn't actually sell the item. - Garnet

We're wondering what changes the [casino at Frye's electronics] will cause them to make to their refund policy.
