Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests

Wright-Patterson AFB provides access to non-public and non-published documents through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The FOIA provides documents, it does not answer questions. The FOIA DOES EXCLUDE certain categories of records from disclosure. Those categories are listed below:

CLASSIFIED RECORDS. Records properly and currently classified in the interest of national defense or foreign policy.

INTERNAL PERSONNEL RULES AND PRACTICES. This exemption falls into two categories, HIGH and LOW.

OTHER STATUTES. Records of matters that a statute specifically exempts from disclosure.

CONFIDENTIAL COMMERCIAL INFORMATION. Records with trade secrets and commercial or financial information.

INTER- or INTRA-AGENCY RECORDS. Intra-agency or inter-agency memoranda or letters that are not routinely released to a party in litigation with the Air Force or DoD?Create.

INVASION OF PERSONAL PRIVACY. Personnel, medical, and similar personal information in other files whose release to the public clearly invades personal privacy.

INVESTIGATIVE RECORDS. Records or information gathered for law enforcement purposes.

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. Those records that regulate or supervise financial institutions.

Categorizing FOIA Requesters

All requesters are categorized into one of the three groups listed below:

COMMERCIAL: Requesters pay all search, review and reproduction charges.

EDUCATIONAL/NONCOMMERCIAL/SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS/NEWS MEDIA: Requesters get the first 100 copies FREE and must pay for any copies in excess of 100 pages. These requesters do not pay search or review charges.

OTHER: Requesters get the first two (2) hours of search and the first 100 pages FREE of charge. These requesters do not pay review charges.

Professional Review $44.00 per Hour

Clerical Search $20.00 per Hour

Clerical Review $20.00 per Hour

Executive Search $75.00 per Hour

Executive Review $75.00 per Hour

Computer Search (Clerical) $20.00 per Hour

Computer Search (Professional) $44.00 per Hour

Office Copy Reproduction $00.15 per Page

Microfiche Reproduction $00.25 per Fiche

Printed Records $00.02 per Page

NOTE: These charges are subject to change if it is determined through regulatory action, that the fees should be increased based on economic indicators
