EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange. This term refers to the transfer of data between different companies using networks, such as the Internet. Use of EDI is often required of small vendors when they wish to deal with large department stores and chain stores. EDI is used as a mechanism for companies to buy, sell, and trade information.
EDI is defined by the ANSI X12 standards.
