- Section I - Colporteur Evangelism
- 1. Our Literature and Its Mission 1
After a vision in November 1848, Ellen G. White said to her husband: "I have a message for you. You must begin to print a little paper and send it out to the people. Let it be small at first; but as the people read, they will send you means with which to print, and it will be a success from the first. From this small beginning it was shown to me to be like streams of light that went clear round the world."

- Make Truth Clear and Plain
Our publications have a duty to make plain and simple the spiritual truths of our message.
Page 2 -
- Our principle aim is to exalt God with our publications and call men to truth, not our own, but His standard of truth.
" I have been repeatedly shown that our presses should now be constantly employed in publishing light and truth. This is a time of spiritual darkness in the churches of the world."
- E. G. White, Colporteur Ministry;CM (Page 2)
Would she say the same thing about our servers and websites today?
- To Prepare A People to Meet God
"The publications sent forth from our printing houses are to prepare a people to meet God." - Page 3
- Publications To Go Everywhere
In the end time it is our work to circulate books and papers with the truth for this time.
- To Every Country and Clime
"Publications must be multiplied, and scattered like the leaves of autumn. These silent messengers are enlightening and molding the minds of thousands in every country and in every clime.--Review and Herald, Nov. 21, 1878. {CM 5.2}" - Page 5
It is important to translate our works into every language, and encourage canvasser-evangelists, and colporteurs, to carry these promises of the soon coming of our Savior.
- To Lighten the Whole World
- 2. A Work Second to None 6
- Successful Soul-Saving Ministry
Canvassing work is missionary work of the highest order, and by widely distributing our
publications, we can call the attention of many to the important events in the closing
scenes of the world's history.
Canvassers may be the only warning of God that some will hear. - Page 7
Getting our publications into the public will encourage the world to search the Scriptures. The
missionary work includes
- introducing our publications
- conversing with the families we meet
- praying with them
- A Call For Revived Interest
"Canvassers have been called from their evangelistic work to engage in other labor. This is not as it should be." - Page 7
- Equal in Importance to the Ministry
"Few have broad and extensive views of what can be done in reaching the people by personal,
interested efforts in a wise distribution of our publications." Review And Herald, Dec. 19, 1878 - Page 9
