Changes to Spring Releaf Program
For fifteen consecutive years, the Cincinnati Park Board’s Spring ReLeaf?Create|Search program has provided trees for volunteer planting on private property and public rights-of-way along city streets. The Park Board is pleased to announce that this beneficial program will continue this year.
However, due to the emergence of the 17-year or periodical cicada this spring the event will be postponed until fall. Brood X of the periodical cicada will emerge in Cincinnati and western Hamilton County late May through mid June. The egg laying practice of the cicada is harmful to young trees, which have the most desirable branch size. Since an effective way to control the damage caused by cicadas is to delay the planting of new trees, the Releaf program will be moved to Fall.
