Browser toolbars are small apps that are added to a web browser to try and provide some kind of added functionality. These are displayed at the top of the browser window, beneath the browser's own toolbars. A very common kind of toolbar application is the "Search Bar" kind of application that makes it easy to use a particular companies toolbar.
Some toolbars watch the things that you do, and the sites you are going to, and provide some kind of assistance. For example, some browser toolbars can help you fill in forms on websites with personal information. Other browser toolbars, such as the Alexa and Google toolbars, display meta-information about the webpage, or website, that you are currently looking at.
