ok. I am now 26 years of age. At some point during my 12th birthday
(I think) I recieved from my aunt a book. It was fiction, thinking
back it may have been yound adult or juvinile fiction and on the cover
was a red wall with several masks on it. The book itself was about a
kid who for some reason or another lives in a bungalow with his mom
and sister. Many times in the story, the kid (a young teenager) finds
himself on the beach, often walking under the boardwalk, when at some
point he sees a lifeguard kissing some girl and makes note of the fact
that the lifeguard grabs the girls boob. The title of the book
escapes me, though i think the word "Devil" may or may not be in the
title. Another detail was that kid had a pair of sneakers with stars
painted on them, and that his sister at some point in the book is
striken with some kind of stroke or paralysis on one side of her face.
Now, I know these detail are vauge and flimsy at best, but if anyone out there has read this book, please give me some information. I recall that this was one of the best books I had ever read and can no longer remember the title or author. Any help would be very welcome!
