If you figure out what society is all about, you will succeed. Education and discipline is what it is all about.
Paul Horning, product of the 50's. He is a guy who is obviously not politically correct. He's not a bomb thrower, or a guy in the public arena debating the issues, but he is a throwback kind of guy. He gets involved in an interview with WXYT. They ask him about Notre Dame Football, which has gone down hill. Horning says,
He didn't mean to disparage blacks, but he did. He didn't say exactly that the standards are too high for blacks, but it is what he meant. Some people who are good at sports are dumb in academics. But it is not a racial thing, it should have been "athletes", but he should not have singled out "black athletes". You can't assign a whole race an academic profile.
Imagine if Paul Horning had said that about Irish people? Bill would not have been offended, because he doesn't care what people think of Irish people. He thinks all Irish people are drunks, who cares? So what! However, he is not a minority. He is a majority, he doesnt have to live under perceptions that can hurt me in doing ordinary things in life. It's only an issue if it deals with your life directly. Blacks are subjected to perceptions by the white majority, and some of those perceptions are grossly unfair.
The question is this: If you are black, do you ignore what he said, and not care, or do you get angry?
