Thomas Biscardi has spent more than 30 years hunting unsuccessfully for Bigfoot. He's hoping his hunt for big corporate game will be shorter and sweeter.
Perhaps testing the outer limits of corporate sponsorship opportunities, Biscardi, of Redwood City, wants to raise $1.5 million to sponsor his Bigfoot expedition later this year. Biscardi will lead 22 people across the mountains and through the woods of Lassen County in search of the elusive man/beast.
Early indications are promising (for the sponsorships, that is, not the Sasquatch). Biscardi said some companies, which he won't identify, have already expressed a willingness to supply the hunters with presumably logoed outerwear.
Still, you can't help but feel he's probably about four years too late (again, for the money, not the monkey). During the dot-com boom, you could find somebody to pay good money to slap their name on just about anything.
As for the expedition itself, only serious searchers are asked to apply.
"There are a lot of people out there who are kooks," Biscardi allowed. "You have to get people who know what they are talking about." He hopes to capture a Bigfoot to put to rest all the speculation that the creature is fictitious.
It doesn't help Biscardi's cause that in 2002 the family of a California man, Ray Wallace, said upon his death that he invented the Bigfoot myth as a prank in 1958 and spent the next four decades elaborating the hoax for fun and profit.
Biscardi is unfazed. "What people don't understand is there is a minimum of 500 Bigfoot throughout North America."
Wouldn't that be "Bigfeet?" Never mind.
