Someone pointed out that the lifespan of chemists is 10 years less than the average person. At least being shot at isn't one of them. How about soldiers? There are risks that go with the job, many of which you have pointed out, greater than a slight increase in background radiation.
I think practically every atom has a radioactive isotope found in some degree in nature. Even carbon upon which life is based, has radioactive isotopes.
There is some new thought on all of this that being subjected to small amounts of stress from environmental toxins may actually make many animals, such as man, stronger, and better able to survive due to being able to develop defense mechanisms.
What did you think of someone in the thread who claimed "we must distribute the world's resources in a fair way?" What a fantasy, I thought "MUST" was pretty funny. Sounds like the math question in California schools that asked the student to divide 7 apples among 3 kids. The anwer they were looking for was 2 apples to each kid, and the seventh apple given to the kid who had the greatest need. I'm not too interested in driving on a bridge designed by a student who gets that question right.
