• Problems with municipalities trying to squeeze extra money out of taxpayers
  • Arnold Swarzeneger wants ability to finetune state budget in mid year based on actual revenues. It would enable him to keep the spending levels for things like schools up where they should be, and also enable him to prevent spending when the state doesn't have enough money. Based on three year averages.
• Show topic: If you are not going to vote, why? Please call in and share your reasons. I want you to vote as an informed individual citizens, not simply to vote for the sake of voting.
• This is the first year Barbara voted absentee this year. She got an envelope talking about change in her polling place: Instead, inside the envelope was something entirely different. She plans to call the registrar of votes about this.
• The ninth circuit of appeals pulled out another rock in the foundation of the family.
• Rioting in Paris. How can a riot be not violent?
• Proposition 13 -
  • Blaimed for everything from the murder of Polly Klass, to the O.J. Simpson verdict.
  • California does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.
  • It's not lack of revenue that is the cause of problems facing California today.
  • When the dotcom bust came, the income tax revenues from capital gains and sales taxes dropped off, but the one revenue stream that continues to increase is property tax revenues.
  • Prop. 13 is very fair to home owners, and also very good for local government, it is a stable revenue source not subject to ups and downs of economic cycles.
