Allegiances of Arab Nations During Cold War
Subjects > World (Search)
lineup of arab nations in the cold war...
- Morocco - us.
- Algeria - Maoist whackos.
- Tunisia - French, sort of Us.
- Libya - Russia.
- Egypt - Russia, converting to us.
- Jordan - Us.
- Lebanon - madhouse, but a French madhouse.
- Syria - Russia.
- Iraq - Russia.
- Saudi Arabia, Kuwait - rolled their own, wagged their own dog
- Islamic East (non-arab) Turkey - us, NATO member.
- Iran - us, under the Shaw.
- Afghanistan - Neutral, both sides against the middle.
- Pakistan - Us.
- Kazakhs and Turkomen - Russian Client States.
So, in spite of propoganda, we did a pretty good job there of supporting Kings. Presidents for life were not popular.... That is a fundamental difference along the lines of alliance... if you see what I mean.
Arab states with Kings, or Democracies...
- Lebanon
- Tunisia
- Jordan
- Saudi
- Kuwait
- Maroc.
- and no arab, Iran and Afghanistan (had a king).
Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Egypt all had presidents for life.
As you can see, Kings are us. I think the Russians get a bad rap for meddling there.
We have meddled way more than they ever did.
