Andrew - The Apostle Who Shared Christ Personally
Although references to Andrew in the gospels are few indeed, what is recorded of him reveals him as a humble, unassuming, devoted and consistent disciple of Christ who enjoyed special intimacy with the Master Mark 13:3
- 1. A disciple of the John the Baptist - Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist before becoming a disciple of Christ.
- 2. A convert to the Lamb of God - "John stood, and two of his disciples; (one was Andrew; perhaps John, the brother of James was the other) and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith Behold the Lamb of God!" John 1:36
- 3. An ardent fisher of souls - Andrew immediately set out to win others for Jesus
- 4. An apostle of Christ - Andrew exhibited virtues as outline in the Biblical passage "Love envieth not" 1 Cor 13:4
- The seeking Greeks - the Greeks were true seekers of God. They desired to see Jesus, not only with the eye of the body, but the eye of the spirit. Andrew introduced them to Jesus.
- The miraculous feeding - Andrew is the medium of blessing to feed the hungry crowds
- The times and seasons - Andrew, Peter, James and John asked Jesus meant by his prophecies about the destruction of the Temple Mark 13;3,4
- The upper room - Andrew's last mention comes after the Lord's ascension. He is found in the upper room at Jerusalem waiting "with one accord in prayer and supplication" Acts 1:13,14
- 5. An example to emulate - Andrew manifested humility and rendered service. He had no craving for honor.
