Oh, thought you might be interested in this, it discusses the hazards to tank crews.... if you can wade through the math its fairly interesting...
Evidently the radiation is slightly more than I thought, but not a lot. The main hazard is to tank crews, like I said, to the extent that there is a hazard.
The article contains a list of 17 countries that use DU for tank armor and ammunition. Additional countries exist but are not mentioned due to security considerations by the Pentagon.
Lots of math, but if you don't mind it its a pretty thorough study. In short, the penetrators are dangerous if worn in contact with the skin as an ornament, and a tank driver who spends too much time in the tank can exceed the "safe" dosage, while the commander cannot. Of course, safe dosage is usually a tiny fraction of what is statictically safe, like the cancer experiments where they drown mice in suspected carcinogens....
Good link, anyway. Thought you might enjoy it.
